On Friday,a post was made on the Kinect for Windows BlogĀ  to clear up some misconceptions and educate people on how “Near Mode” really works.

This new operating mode, which will be part of Kinect for Windows is made up of “new firmware which enables the depth camera to see objects as close as 50 centimeters in front of the device without losing accuracy or precision, with graceful degradation down to 40 centimeters.”

In addition, the team made it clear that both sensors the Xbox Kinect and the Kinect for Windows both share the same field of view and camera lenses. People apparently had been speculating otherwise.
